LA CLUSAZ RESORT GUIDE
A Proper Alpine Village with Serious Ski History
La Clusaz isn’t one of those purpose-built, concrete ski resorts; it’s a living, breathing French alpine village that has been welcoming skiers since 1907. Set around a traditional town square and a beautiful 19th-century church, the village is packed with rustic wooden chalets, local boutiques, and a buzzing atmosphere. Even though it’s growing in popularity with British skiers, it has proudly kept its authentic French charm. Plus, it boasts one of the longest seasons in the Alps—usually running from mid-December right through to late April—thanks to heavy investments in snow-making and brand-new, modern lifts.
Slopes for Every Style: From First-Timers to Powder Hounds
With 125km of pistes spread across five linked mountains, the skiing here offers something for everyone. Beginners and families will love the wide, quiet nursery slopes on the Beauregard plateau and over in nearby Manigod. For intermediates, the resort is a dream for cruising long, tree-lined blues and fast reds. But if you’re chasing fresh powder, head straight to La Balme. Reaching up to 2,600m with stunning views across to Mont Blanc, this massive freeride bowl is a legendary haven for advanced skiers and boarders, famous for serving up waist-deep powder days after a fresh dump.
The Inside Track on Eating, Drinking, and Après
The mountain side of La Clusaz is packed with incredible spots to refuel, whether you want a quick piste-side snack at La Cabane d’Heidi or a truffle pizza with Mont Blanc views at Restaurant 1647. Back down in the village, you can enjoy hearty, traditional Savoyard fondue at La Ferme (a rustic old farmhouse right on the piste) or grab a sophisticated glass of wine in the cellar at Bar au Vin. When the lifts close, the après scene comes alive—start with a vin chaud on the sunny terrace at Le Vieux Chalet on your home run, before heading into the village square to see what live events or local festivals are kicking off.
